Male Sexual Health

What is sexual dysfunction?

Overall, sexual dysfunction is the inability to have satisfactory sexual intercourse with one’s partner. This definition includes erectile dysfunction (ED), penile curvature (Peyronie’s Disease), ejaculatory dysfunction, and decreased libido.

You are not alone!

Approximately, 1 in every 5 men over the age of 20 have experienced sexual dysfunction in their lifetime. Over half of men over the age of 40 suffer from erectile dysfunction.

How to be evaluated?

All men who complain of sexual dysfunction should be evaluated with a through history, review of previous treatments and medication, and a physical exam. Often blood testing (including Testosterone levels) will be drawn to assess for an endocrinologist cause of sexual dysfunction. Imaging with a Penile Ultrasound may also be considered

There are many options:

Each man (and their partner’s) situation is unique & therefore a case-by-case approach is usually best for treatment of sexual dysfunction.

For men with erectile dysfunction, the most common initial treatment is with oral medication (Viagra, Levitra, Cialis). For men who have been unsuccessful with pills for ED, there are non-surgical therapy and minimally invasive procedures that can allow return to a satisfying sex life.

Common Surgeries performed:

  • Prosthetic surgery: Malleable and Inflatable Penile Prosthesis Insertion
  • Correction of Peyronie’s disease: penile plication, incision and grafting, prosthesis insertion.
